Wisconsin State Fair was held in Janesville along the banks of the Rock River. For the next 40 years, the site of the State Fair changed annually with stops in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Janesville <em>(1851, 1857, 1864-1866, 1877)<\/em>, along the banks of the Rock River<\/li>\n<li>Milwaukee at the Cold Spring Race Course <em>(1852, 1856, 1870-1876, 1886-1891)<\/em>, current location of the Cold Spring Park residential neighborhood<\/li>\n<li>Watertown <em>(1853)<\/em>, along the banks of the Rock River<\/li>\n<li>Milwaukee at the Spring Street Grounds <em>(1854-1855, 1859)<\/em>, current location of Marquette University and Aurora Sinai Medical Center<\/li>\n<li>Madison at the Bruen Estate <em>(1858, 1860, 1867-1860, 1880, 1883-1885)<\/em>, current location of Camp Randall<\/li>\n<li>Fond du Lac <em>(1881-1882)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 1892, a permanent site for the annual event was secured in West Allis on the former Steven&#8217;s Farm. attended State Fair was the 1948 Wisconsin Centennial Exposition, which lasted for the 23 days.\u00a0Official attendance records show that 1,786,818 attended the State Fair in 1948.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1979, the annual State Fair dates were moved to the first week of August to accommodate the start of school and adopted an eleven day format that is still used today.<\/p>\n<p>Annual attendance since the switch to the new event dates and length has steadily increased from an average of 800,000 attendees to over 1,000,000 attendees in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>The highest attended State Fair during the modern era occurred in 2024 with 1,136,805 attendees.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div style=\"--awb-backgroundcolor:rgba(255,255,255,0);\" class=\"fusion-column content-box-column 1851, the Wisconsin State Fair has only been canceled a handful of times:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1861-1863 &#8211; American Civil War, fairgrounds in Madison were used as a training camp for troops and renamed Camp Randall<\/li>\n<li>1893 &#8211; World&#8217;s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, concerns about competition for attendance caused several Midwest fairs to cancel, including the Wisconsin State Fair and Minnesota State Fair<\/li>\n<li>1945 &#8211; World War II, at the request of the Office of War Transportation<\/li>\n<li>2020 &#8211; COVID-19 Pandemic, on the recommendation from health officials to avoid mass gatherings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While war, competing expositions, and even a pandemic may have stopped the fun for a year here and there, the State Fair has consistently During those years, the fairgrounds leased in Madison were used as a training camp for troops, which is how it got the name Camp Randall.<br \/>\n<strong style=\"color: #0088a0;\">1864<\/strong> \u2013 Manufacturers\u2019 Hall showcased cooking stoves and distributed samples of roast beef and bread.<br \/>\n<strong style=\"color: #0088a0;\">1865<\/strong> \u2013 Popular entertainment included horse racing speed trials.<br \/>\n<strong style=\"color: #0088a0;\">1868<\/strong> \u2013 20-horsepower steam engine on display to demonstrate agriculture machinery in action. In its early years, the State Fair moved locations annually, and was hosted in Janesville (1851, 1857), Milwaukee\u2019s Cold Spring Race Course (1852, 1856), Watertown (1853), Milwaukee\u2019s Spring Street Grounds (1854-1855, 1859), and Madison\u2019s Bruen Estate (1858).<\/p>\n<p>Agriculture was the main feature in the first decade.
